The Zoo Transition Program is a collaborative partnership between Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, Omaha Public Schools, and Papillion LaVista Community Schools. It supports young adults with disabilities, ages 18–21, as they transition from high school into adulthood. The Zoo serves as a unique job site where students gain hands-on experience in a real-world environment. Through individually tailored instruction aligned with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), the program offers structured learning focused on independence, practical life skills, and work readiness. This program empowers students to build confidence, develop essential skills, and take meaningful steps toward greater independence and community involvement.
